December in Clara Luna by Corey

Hola!

December was a busy month here at Clara Luna. There were only a handful of volunteers this month, but there was plenty to do. Adria and Mireia, from Spain, left just as Americans Corey (me) and Tess showed up. Mary was around for the whole month, and Maryann left around the middle of the month. Some of the activities for the month included:

·         Preparation for a holiday presentation at the municipal building. The children (around 50, in all) learned how to sing the traditional Christmas song ‘Jingle Bells’, as well  as ‘Feliz Navidad’, and a traditional Spanish song titled ‘Mi Burrito Sabanero’.

·         We played plenty of games, made some origami, and made ‘Play Dough’ from scratch.

·         Our lovely Canadian neighbors generously spent their ‘Christmas present money’ intended for their nieces and nephews on coloring books and crayons for the children. In exchange, they sent their families a video of the children singing Christmas tunes and saying thanks!

·         We had a Canadian Christmas dinner on the 25th, complete with ham, turkey, stuffing, and Tess’s and my rough attempt at some traditional Ecuadorian bunuelos.

It was a short month, with the holidays and whatnot, so that about sums it up!
